Betty L. Sellin, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at her home in Lexington.
Betty was born May 12, 1925, in Cedar County, Nebraska, to Louis Carl and Hazel Dell (Bowles) Rohde. She attended school in Wayne County, Nebraska. Betty was united in marriage to Dick Sellin on April 30, 1944, in Carroll, Nebraska. Five children were born to this marriage; Gordon, Rick, Judy, Pat, & Jan, each child was born in a different town because Dick’s construction jobs took him all over. The family moved to Lexington in 1954.
During Betty’s working years she spent 10 years as a cook in the school cafeteria, 18+ years at the Lexington Laundry, and a time at A&W.
She enjoyed cooking, and showed her love for her family by cooking for them at family gatherings, she was a wonderful seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, and always had a big garden, the produce of which she canned.
Betty was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was one of the first volunteers for Tri-County Hospital Hospice.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Dick of Lexington, Nebraska; her children; Gordon Sellin of Lexington, Nebraska, Rick Sellin of Lexington, Nebraska, Judy Lauby of Lexington, Nebraska, Pat (Dennis) Gayman of Pine, Arizona, and Jan (Dan) Widick of Farnam, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; Dmitry (Olga) Shevtsov of Lexington, Nebraska, Michele (Jeff) Flynn of Lexington, Nebraska, Gina (Brad) Holbrook of Kearney, Nebraska, Angie (Greg) Smit of Brandon, Wisconsin, Heather Lauby and fiancé Scott Kessinger of Newport Rhichey, Florida, Justin Lauby of Chandler, Arizona, Tyson Lauby of Afton, Missouri, Noah Lauby of Lowell, Indiana, Mitch (Jennifer) Gayman of Temecula, California, Matt (Rhonda) Gayman of Surprise, Arizona, Tanner (Sara) Widick of Georgetown, Texas, and Kory Widick of Lincoln, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren, Gina (Russ) Schwarz of Omaha, Nebraska, and Tammy Martin of Omaha, Nebraska; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge, and thank her special caretakers, Olga Shevtsov, Kelly Hoff, and Kim Benson.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastors Rob Kuefner and Bill Ohlmann officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 26, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
