Mike J. Turner, 48, of Overton, Nebraska, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Mike was born May 29, 1968, in Modesto, California, to James and Janet Turner. He was a 1986 graduate from Thomas Downey High School in Modesto, California. Following High School, Mike enlisted the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany and fought in Desert Storm. He spent almost eight years serving his country and was very proud to be Army. In 2004, Mike starting working for Union Pacific Railroad. While working for the railroad Mike met the love of his life, Deb. Mike and Deb were married on October 8, 2016 in North Platte, Nebraska, they would reside in Overton. Mike was also attending classes at Central Community College in Kearney studying Environmental Health & Safety. Guardians of the Children was a big part of Mike’s (Scout) life. He made many lifelong friends who he considered family and Deb would become part of this family as well. Mike always enjoyed helping organize the Little Guardians fun day motorcycle ride for children, helping with the Little Guardians, attending the Little Guardians monthly events and fighting the fight against child abuse. Mike was proud to be a Guardian and it was a passion of his, he would do whatever it took to spread the word about child abuse. Mike enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events, bowling, playing chess, golfing, playing Xbox with his children and friends, riding his motorcycle with Deb, cooking on his Traeger and was an avid Kansas State Wildcat fan. Mike is survived by his wife; Deb of Overton, Nebraska; Sons: Sean Turner of Clarksburg, West Virginia, David Turner of Aurora, New York, Dalton Turner of St. Paul, Kansas, Joseph Pembleton of North Platte, Nebraska, Tyler Zeleski (Hillary Patterson) of Lexington, Nebraska, Zachary Zeleski of Overton, Nebraska & Dylan Zeleski of Overton, Nebraska; Daughters: Kayleigh Turner of Medford, Oregon, Krista Turner of Modesto, California, Trisha Turner, (Derek Pressing) of Aurora, New York, Dakota (James) Holding of St. Paul, Kansas & Rebecca Zeleski of Overton, Nebraska; his parents, James (Carol) Turner of New Mexico; brother, Scott (Jessica) Turner of Georgia; grandmother, Evelyn Pyles of Sayre, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Isabella, Nathaniel, Kerri, Benjamin, Kenlee, Sophia and one on the way. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Turner and uncle, Dwight Turner. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 1, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with Pastor Daniel Sauer, officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, and also on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 4-6 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Burial with Military Honors will be at 11:30 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.
