W. Wesley Lubberstedt, 82, well-respected attorney from Lexington, Nebraska, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Brookdale Senior Living in Lexington, Nebraska.
He was born September 1, 1934, in Wakefield, Nebraska, to Erwin William and Mabel J. (Denker) Lubberstedt.
Wes was a 1952 graduate of Wakefield High School in Wakefield, Nebraska. He then went on to further his education at the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with his Juris Doctor. Wes also served his country in the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Wes was united in marriage to Neala O’Dell on June 12, 1955, in Wayne, Nebraska. Two daughters were born to this marriage; Ann and Amy.
The family moved to Lexington in 1971, where Wes was an Attorney with Cook & Cook Law Office. He opened his own practice in 1979, at the present location where the Lexington Community Foundation office is located. Wes was instrumental in the formation of the Lexington Foundation, and proudly donated space in his office for the organization.
He was always involved in the community. He was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church for 46 years, practiced law for 46 years, a proud supporter of the Lexington Community Foundation, serving in all capacities of the organization, Lexington United Way, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, where he served as past president, the Council for Economic Development, where he served as past president and board member, and past board member of Keep Lexington Beautiful. Also, he served as City Attorney for many years, as well as the Lexington school attorney for several years. He was active in Dawson Area Development, and his love of children had him involved as a Guardian ad litem for them through the court system.
There is so much more that could be said about this great man. He loved life, his family, all people, his clients, and will forever be missed.
Wes is survived by his daughters; Ann Dannehl of Omaha, Nebraska, Amy (Jerry) Hobelman of Lexington, Nebraska; four grandchildren; John (Kate) Rodysill of Charleston, South Carolina, Ellie Hobelman of Lexington, Nebraska, Claire (Chad) Conrad of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ben Dannehl of Omaha, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren; Kia, Landon and Presley; two brothers; Rodney (Bonnie) Lubberstedt of Kerville, Texas and Robert (Dawn) Lubberstedt of Wakefield, Nebraska; one sister, Cathy (Kent) Bressler of Kerville, Texas; also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Wes was preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Mabel; his loving wife, Neala; a brother, Gene; and, sister, Mervonne Doebky.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Joshua Stibb officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
There will be no visitation, but the casket will be open one hour prior to the funeral service.
