Howard K. Chessmore, 74, of Callaway, Nebraska, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Callaway Good Life Center.
He was born June 21, 1942, in North Platte Nebraska, to Charles C. and Cecil B. (Staal) Chessmore. He attended school in North Platte, Nebraska, where he graduated with the class of 1960. He then went on to further his education at the University of Nebraska-Kearney with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with Accounting and Finance endorsements.
Howard was united in marriage to Wanda Posten on July 1, 1961 in North Platte, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this marriage; Allen, David, Susan, Michael & Karen. The family lived in North Platte, Grand Island, and settled in Callaway in the early 1990’s.
Howard spent the majority of his life in sales. He worked for Electrolux, Traveler’s, People’s Life Insurance Company, Woodman Life and Interstate Engineering.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Parian #207 in Callaway, Nebraska. Howard was a member of AA since 1985. He was also a Board Member with Nebraska walk to Emmaus, and a member of the United Methodist Church in Callaway.
Howard had many hobbies; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, reading, bowling and painting. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and pitch. Howard enjoyed making walking sticks and canes. His family was very important to him.
Howard is survived by his wife, Wanda of Callaway, Nebraska; three sons, Allen Chessmore of Callaway, Nebraska, David (Kristie) Chessmore of North Platte, Nebraska, and Michael Chessmore of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two daughters, Susan (Scott) Johnson of Paxton, Nebraska, and Karen (Duane) Hickenbottom of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Harold Chessmore of Homer, Alaska; one sister, Margaret (Don) Herbert of Arapahoe, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Clara Chessmore of Cozad, Nebraska; twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren with two on the way; also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford; and sister, Mabel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, March 13, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway, Nebraska, with Pastor Shanon Williams, officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway, Nebraska, with Masonic Rites by Parian Lodge #207 to be held at 4:00 p.m.
Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Callaway or the Donor’s Choice.
