Richard Edward “Dick” Stickley, 80, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, February 17, 2017, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
He was born February 13, 1937, at home in rural Perkins County, Nebraska, to Edward A. and Anna Marie (Dittmer) Stickley.
Dick went to school in Grant, Nebraska, graduating from Perkins County High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Patricia McVey on June 30, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Ogallala. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Michael, Cheryl, and Ronnie.
He worked in the oil fields for several years as a young man before moving to Ogallala. He spent 10 years at the Brule Hay Mill, and then in 1980, moved his family to Lexington where he worked for Dawson County Feed Products, a total of 23 years total. He also ran a scraper around the area.
Dick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved the outdoors, to fish, hunt, farm, ride horses and garden. He and Patricia loved to camp and spent many weekends camping at local lakes. He could tell a story like no other, and could talk your leg off forever. But, he had a heart of gold, and is with his sweet Patricia again.
Survivors include his children; Michael Stickley of Grant, Nebraska, Cheryl Stickley (Kevin McKee) of Lexington, Nebraska, and Ronnie Stickley of Las Vegas, Nevada; two brothers; Jerry (Shirley) Stickley of Grant, Nebraska, Kenneth Stickley of Ogallala, Nebraska; two sisters, Roberta Vieyra of North Platte, Nebraska, and Loretta Christensen of Big Springs, Nebraska; three grandsons; Jon and wife Michele Stickley of Lexington, Nebraska, Martin Stickley and (fiance’ Lone Handberg) of Trondheim, Norway, and Austin Stickley of Las Vegas, Nevada; four great-grandchildren, Brylee, Beau, and Nolan Stickley, of Lexington, Nebraska, and Matheo Stickley of Trondheim, Norway. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia in October of 2016; and a brother-in-law, Henry Christensen.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating.
Burial will be that same afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery south of Ogallala at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
