Winston Blanshan Loomer

Winston Blanshan Loomer, 100, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, former Lexington resident, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at Quality Senior Villages in Broken Bow. He was born July 13, 1916, in LuVerne, Iowa to Percy Ivanson and Esther Ellen (Blanshan) Loomer. He received his education in LuVerne and later at Manly, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Christian Church in Lexington, Nebraska. At an early age, he began driving trucks; delivering produce to grocery stores around northern Iowa. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Brown in Bethany, Missouri, on September 17, 1941. To this union four children were born; Jamie Marlene, Marilyn Kay, Frank Eugene, and Paul Alan. On February 23, 1943, Winston entered the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Roberts, California and was assigned to the 56th Battalion Field Artillery. He was later stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he completed Artillery Motor and Air Mechanic schools. He was honorably discharged on February 7, 1946, at which time he enlisted in the Army Reserve until February of 1949. Winston was the Plant Operator for Platte Valley Products for many years. Following retirement, you would find Winston and Mary Jane traveling in their 5th-wheel all over the southern United States, especially enjoying New Mexico and Arizona. He loved to tell stories, never knew a stranger, and just simply enjoyed people. Survivors include his children; Marilyn (Jerry) Hemphill of Cozad, Nebraska, Frank (Karen) Loomer of Columbus, Nebraska, and Paul Loomer of Broken Bow, Nebraska; sister, Patricia McArthur of Brentwood, California; as well as six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Winston was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Mary Jane; infant daughter, Jamie Marlene; two sisters, Wave Rossi, and Donna McArthur; one grandson, Gerald Hemphill, and one great-granddaughter, Allison Hemphill. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at LexChristian Church in Lexington with Pastor Daniel Sauer officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Evergreen Cemetery east of Lexington. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
