Albert Blocher, Jr. 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington. Al was born March 27, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa to Albert John and Emily (Steidle) Blocher. Al was a 1954 graduate of Lexington High School. He served his country in the United States Army from March of 1956 until his honorable discharge in April of 1959. Al was united in marriage to Barbara Jackson on May 11, 1958, in Bertrand, Nebraska. The couple were blessed with five children; Steven, Craig, Rodney, Rhonda, and Brenda. Following their marriage, the couple moved several times back and forth from Lexington to Holdrege because of Al’s job with the telephone company. They returned to Lexington in 1968 where they made their home ever since. Al spent his entire career with the U.S. West/Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1994. He was in Telecommunications. His career included working in splicing, installation, maintenance and design services. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting when he was a younger man. The couple loved to park their 5th-wheel trailer at Elwood Reservoir. Family was important to Al, and he enjoyed spending time with them, especially the grandchildren. Survivors include his children; Steven (Jackie) Blocher of West Point, Nebraska, Brenda (Mark) Bliven of Lexington, Nebraska, Craig (Sandy) Blocher of Lexington, Nebraska, Rodney Blocher of Lexington, Nebraska, and Rhonda (Kirk) Mills of Lexington, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; Justin, Andrew, Linsey, Crystal, Matthew, Sean, Christopher, Aaron, Stephanie, Billy, Natalie, Heather, and Shannon; as well as 17 great-grandchildren; also surviving is one sister, Annaliese McCall of York, Nebraska. Al was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara; an infant brother, Thomas; and brother-in-law, Richard McCall. Funeral Services will be Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Anne Gahn officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
