Adelaide Helvey, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.
She was born February 23, 1917, at Lexington, Nebraska to Albert and Martha (Christ) Naviaux. She attended school at Dawson County North 17, and graduated from Lexington High School in 1935, and then attended Omaha Business School.
Adelaide met Webb Helvey in Omaha and they were married May 16, 1941, in Omaha. They lived in Omaha, Kansas City and returned to Lexington to take over the family farm. Adelaide was active in St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, Grant Extension Club, and the school board of North 17.
Playing cards was a favorite past time and she was an expert in needlework, leaving many precious treasures. She worked in the Assessor’s office at the courthouse and did bookkeeping for her husband. They retired in 1969, and spent most of their winters in Texas.
Adelaide recently lived at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington where she was a very welcoming resident to anyone new moving into the facility. It seemed to be her mission in life to always make sure people around her were comfortable and had what they needed. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She set a remarkable example of life and will be missed.
Adelaide is survived by her son, Richard (Carol) Helvey of Lexington; her daughter, Marge (Con) Ogden of Littleton, Colorado; five grandchildren, Laura (Pete) Mendoza of Denver, Colorado; Dori (Travis) Moomey of Kearney; Jason (Sarah) Helvey of Omaha; Carmen (Steven) Pleskac of Omaha; Brett Ogden of Littleton, Colorado; eleven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron and Pedro Mendoza of Denver, Colorado; Hallett, Phillip, Jillian and Camille Moomey of Kearney; Marigold Helvey of Omaha; Wesley, Lucia and Jaxon Pleskac of Omaha; sister, Sister Mary Helena Naviaux of Omaha.
Adelaide was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wilbur “Webb” Helvey; her second husband, Julius Bussard; her son, Albert Rene Helvey; her brother ,Phillip Naviaux; her sisters, Louise Brougham, and Martha (Mattie) Naviaux.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Paul Colling officiating.
Burial will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 26, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. with Wake Service to follow at 7:00 at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
