Gaylord E. Hansen, 68, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away at his home in Lexington on Tuesday, June 16, 2009.
He was born May 8, 1941, at Grand Island, Nebraska, to Leland and Alma (Lackenmacher) Hansen. Gaylord grew up in Grand Island where he attended school and graduated from Grand Island High School with the class of 1959, where he was an All-State football player for the Grand Island Islanders.
He went to work for Andy’s rendering and it was during this time he married Barb Perrel. Two children were born to this marriage; Chris and Jeff. He then married Margaret Wardyn and one son, Jake was born to this marriage.
Gaylord worked for Swift & Company for 14 years. Monfort, Inc. bought out Swift and Gaylord worked 17 years for them prior to moving to Lexington in 1998, where he worked for IBP Beef Packing until his retirement.
Gaylord was an avid hunter and fisherman, who made his own jigs, you could say he was the “true outdoorsman”. He was a perfectionist who loved keeping a beautiful garden, cooking, camping and boating. He enjoyed all sports, but most especially, his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Gaylord was a member of the Eagles Club.
Survivors include two sons: Jeff and wife Sue Hansen of Phillips, Nebraska
Jake Hansen of Columbus, Nebraska
One daughter: Chris and husband Fred Drummond of Fayetteville, North Carolina
One sister: Jeanette Moores of Evergreen, Colorado
Seven grandchildren: Aaron, Jessica, Matthew, Joshua & Nicholas Drummond and Brodi and Jordan Hansen.
One niece: Jane Weinberger of Evergreen Colorado
One nephew: Joe Moores of Mansfield, Texas
Gaylord was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Grand Island, Nebraska with Reverend Paul Colling officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska.
Memorials are to the Family for later designation.
