Jan McCarter, 48, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a lengthy illness.
Jan was born March 21, 1961, at Lexington, Nebraska to Albert Lynn and Beverly Jo (Moore) Crowell.
Jan attended school at Odessa, Holdrege and Loomis. Following her education, Jan worked at the Holdrege Country Club and did a lot of babysitting for families in the Holdrege area.
From a young age Jan always loved kids and when her kids were in high school she went to work at Foote Oil in Overton.
She was united in marriage to Michael McCarter on December 27, 1982, at Kearney, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Josh, Travis, Stephanie and Jarad.
Mike and Jan lived in Overton their entire married lives. Being a mom was Jan’s greatest joy in life. She was able to stay at home with the kids until they went to high school and was always active in all of their activities and coached them as well.
Jan was good at everything she set her mind to; she loved sewing, doing crafts, cooking and decorating. But, her greatest joy was being with her family and her three little grandsons. She will be so very missed.
Growing up Jan was a member of Moses Hill Covenant Church in Holdrege.

Travis McCarter of Sioux City, Iowa
Jarad McCarter and Jayde Compton of Kearney, Nebraska
One daughter: Stephanie and T.J. Clark of Sioux City, Iowa
One brother: Scott and Kara Crowell of Holdrege, Nebraska
Three sisters: Cathy Masilko of Norfolk, Nebraska
Marla and Jim Hadachek of Arapahoe, Colorado
Shari and Steve Coomes of Ware, Massachusetts
Three grandsons: Dalton McCarter of Bertrand, Nebraska, Drake Clark of Sioux City, Iowa and Brock McCarter of Kearney, Nebraska as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her grandparents; father-in-law, Glenn McCarter, Sr. and brother-in-law, Glenn McCarter, Jr.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Overton Methodist Church in Overton with Pastor Bonnie Linton-Hendrick officiating.
Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery at Overton.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 8, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Overton Funeral Home with family present.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
