Frederick J. Dickerson, 91, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Cozad. He was born August 7, 1924, in Livonia, Missouri, to John Frederick and Pearl (Henry) Dickerson. He grew up and attended school in Meade, Kansas, graduating from Meade High School with the class of 1942. He then went on to further his education at Dodge City Junior College in Dodge City, Kansas. Fred served his country during WWII in the Marine Corps. He served from August 17, 1943, until his honorable discharge on April 26, 1946. Following his time in the military he owned and operated a body shop in Meade. He was united in marriage to Arlene Williamson; two daughters were blessed to this marriage, Diane and Jo. He then was married to Margaret Vonkothen, and he welcomed her two daughters, Pam and Pat into the family. He worked as an Insurance Adjuster. Quite an interesting fact about Fred is that he and Jim Christensen designed and built the golf course at Johnson Lake. He ran the golf club at Garden City, Kansas, and was the golf pro at Iola, Kansas. He then went back to being an insurance adjuster until he retired. Fred was quite the practical joker, and loved to golf. He built a cabin at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri using do-it-yourself help books from the library, which took five years and was quite an accomplishment. When his wife, Marge passed away, and his eyesight started to fail, he moved to Nebraska to be near his family. Fred is survived by his daughters, Diane (Merlin) Richardson of Lexington, Nebraska, Jo (Marty) Fuchs of Fort Worth, Texas; two stepdaughters, Pam Hedlund of Lenexa, Kansas, and Pat Olinger of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother, Jim (Verla) Dickerson of Illinois; one sister, Florence McMicheal of Evansville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Nikki (Troy) Moats of Lexington, Nebraska, Sherri (Rich) Rima of Lexington, Nebraska, Mark Fuchs and Brian Fuchs of Fort Worth, Texas; several stepgrandchildren, Stacy, Kresten, Zack, Lisa, and Michelle; two great-grandchildren, McKinna Moats of Lexington, Nebraska and Dakota (Jessica) Rima of Lexington, Nebraska, one great-grandson, James Rima of Lexington, Nebraska; also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and brothers, Robert and John. It was Fred’s wishes his body be cremated. There will be no local service. Inurnment will be held at Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
