Monty R. Birnie, 58, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Callaway District Hospital.
Monty was born August 5, 1957, in Callaway, Nebraska, to Lon and Dorothy “Joan” (Struempler) Birnie. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School in 1976. He then went on to Western Bible College for 2 years near Denver.
After finishing college, Monty went back to Callaway, where he would marry Robin Whitney in 1980, one son was born to this union; Matthew.
Monty spent one year in Modesto, California, eventually moving back to Callaway in 1990, when his mother passed away. Monty was an entrepreneur. He enjoyed building businesses including Agriculture (dairy, hay, cattle and pig packing plants), Electronics (Sales and Manufacturing), and even medical device marketing. He worked at Mid-Continent Technologies in Lincoln for five years. Living in Callaway, Monty ran a dairy farm, raised cattle and horses.
Monty loved the Lord, people, and his community. He was a Cornhusker fan. He loved the farm and kept cattle and horses. He made several missionary journeys, including a trip to India. He was a faithful member of Callaway Community Church.
Survivors include his son; Matthew and wife Shilo Birnie of Mesa, Arizona; his father, Lon Birnie of Callaway, Nebraska; two sisters, Cindy and her husband Ron Urbach of Hemet, California, Marci and her husband Stuart Gilbertson of Kearney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Titus, Kali, Ella and Caleb. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Monty was preceded in death by his mother, Joan, in 1990.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Callaway Community Church with Pastor Dean Haidle officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at Callaway Community Church.
Interment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery at Broken Bow, Nebraska.
