Eunice Viola Gerken

Eunice V. Gerken, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Cozad, Nebraska. Eunice was born January 1, 1915, at Brady, Nebraska, to Martin and Bertha (Lindsay) Brandenberg. She moved with her family as a young girl to the Lexington area and has made this her home her entire life. She was united in marriage to Edward Gerken on January 1, 1936, at Holdrege, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union; Ron, Arlene and Barbara. Eunice was an active member of the Berean Bible Church in Lexington for many, many years and served as custodian for almost 20 of those years. She loved being a mother and homemaker, gardening, being outdoors, reading and read her Bible from cover to cover each year. In later years, Eunice enjoyed playing Bingo, attending Bible study and writing letters back and forth with her family. She will be so very missed. Survivors include one son and his fiance’ : Ron Gerken and Cheryl Broome of Lexington, Nebraska Two daughters: Arlene (Dale) Gengenbach of Eustis, Nebraska; Barbara (Mark) Walters of Lincoln, NE One brother: Ken Brandenberg of Lexington, Nebraska Three Sisters: Lydia McKee of Washington State; Leona Frey of Kearney, Nebraska; Leota (Ed) Schledewitz of Kearney, Nebraska Nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces & nephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed in 1991; one infant grandson, Randy Scott; two brothers, Clarence & Willard; three sisters, Goldie McKee, Lucille Gerken and Gladys Phillips. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Monday, May 4, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to Asceracare Hospice from Kearney or the Donor’s Choice.
