Benjamin Chavez Garcia, 50, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Lexington. He was born July 8, 1965, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Hipolito Chavez and Paulina Garcia. Benjamin graduated high school in Mexico, and went on to further his education and became an Accountant. In 1996, he moved to Lexington. He bought Teresa’s Tortillas from the former owners in 2007, and in 2013, remodeled the store and moved to the present location on 7th St. Benjamin enjoyed reading, studying (he continued to study, as education was an important part of his life), cooking, and music. He adored his daughter, Paulina, and felt her continuing education was very important. He was a savvy business man, had a heart of gold, and a love for his employees, and his customers. Family meant the world to him and he so enjoyed family get-togethers. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Surviving Benjamin is his daughter, Paulina Chavez, and her mother, Belia Duran of El Paso, Texas; three brothers, Hipolito (Maribel) Chavez Garcia of Oklahoma, Rafael (Mirna) Chavez Garcia of Mexico, Luis (Jennifer) Chavez Garcia of Crete, Nebraska; three sisters, Luz Elena Chavez of Crete, Nebraska, Delia Chavez of Overton, Nebraska, Isabel (Martin) Chavez-Baeza of Oklahoma; twenty-three nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, and two nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 29, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
