Elton A. Withers, 103, of Elwood, Nebraska, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
Elton was born December 29, 1905, in Gosper County, Nebraska, south of Smithfield, to Henry and Martha (Clark) Withers.
Elton was united in marriage to Viola Marie Smith on April 12, 1927, at Elwood, Nebraska. One son was blessed to this union; Maurice.
He attended grade school near Elwood and worked on the farm. He helped build Johnson Lake Reservoir and was then worked for the Gosper County Road Department as their road grader for over 40 years. He also helped area farmers just to keep busy.
Elton enjoyed gardening, raising pigs and hogs, his dog “Spot”, spending time with his family, playing shuffleboard and was always there when anybody needed help. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include one son: Maurice (Jo) Withers of North Platte, Nebraska
Two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola and two brothers, Verle and Harold.
Funeral Services will be Friday, April 17, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating.
Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
