Deloris Juanita "Babe" Carlson

Deloris Juanita “Babe” Marriner Carlson, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in Lexington. Babe was born April 24, 1925, to John Walker (J.W.) Marriner and Edna Ruth Jones Marriner, in Colby, Kansas. Babe spent her early years in Colby, and then moved with her mother and stepfather, Leon Shank, to Colorado. When visiting her father in Holdrege, Nebraska, she met and married Donald LeRoy Carlson on March 21, 1942. They shared 68 years before Donald died March 26, 2010. Three children were born to Babe and Don; Constance, Steven, and Richard. They worked and lived in Holdrege, McCook, Beatrice, Omaha, and Hastings, Nebraska, as well as Spirit Lake, Iowa. They were part owners of the Sidles/Mr. Automotive in Hastings from 1977 until 1989. When they retired they enjoyed living and traveling the country in a fifth wheel trailer. She was the driver and drove many miles including a trip to Alaska. During their years in Holdrege, they enjoyed the McDonald’s coffee gang, and the YMCA. In 2013, Babe moved to Lexington. She enjoyed deck time at Johnson Lake, special coffees with neighbors, McDonald’s morning group, and the fellowship at the Lexington Grand Generation Center. She credited her years at the Y in Holdrege and Lexington for her quality of life. She was a fixture at the Lexington Y until just a few weeks ago. Babe is survived by her three children; Connie Bennett of Lexington, Nebraska, Steven Carlson of Hastings, Nebraska, and Richard (Jan) Carlson of Bennington, Nebraska; three grandchildren; Curt Bennett of Lexington, Nebraska, Barbara (Don) Ostdiek of Houston,Texas, and Perry (Autumn) Carlson of Hastings, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren; Adam Bennett of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Jared (Kate) Bennett of Nellis, AFB, Nevada, and, Taylor Rae Bennett of Lexington, Nebraska, Bennett, Jacob, and Will Ostdiek all of Houston, Texas, Amelie and Chandler Carlson of Hastings, Nebraska; three sisters, Alice (Jerry) Lebcke of LePorte, Colorado, Judy Plock of Kearney, Nebraska, and Cathy Marriner of Boulder, Colorado; two brothers, Jerry (Pat) Marriner of Boulder, Colorado, and Bill (Sherry) Marriner of Boulder, Colorado; brother-in-law; Ralph (Margaret) Carlson of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Donna Carlson of Holdrege, Nebraska; family friends; Jim (Karen) Steinke of Lexington, Nebraska, and John (Kay) Steinke of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as other relatives and many friends. Babe was preceded in death, besides her parents and stepfather, by her husband Donald; stepmother, Lucille Marriner, brother, Jim Marriner; son-in –law, Gordon Bennett; brothers-in-law, Clinton Carlson, Sam Carlson, Chester Johnson, and Vaughn Plock; sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson, Loraine Carlson, and Evelyn Carlson; as well as family friends, John and Ruby Steinke. There will be a Memorial Open House for Babe and Don on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, from 2-6 p.m. at Johnson Lake, 19 Mallard Beach, Drive 20. Reflections will be at 3:30 p.m., led by their grandchildren. Let your memories be your memorial. If you wish, please donate to the Lexington YMCA Swimming Pool Fund or your choice.
