Dorothy E. Haney, 90, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of rural Smithfield, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Madonna Long Term Care Facility in Lincoln.
She was born July 6, 1918 in Gosper County, Nebraska to Archie and Ethel (Benton) Moncrief. Dorothy attended rural school and graduated from Elwood High School in 1937.
On February 23, 1938, she married Harold Haney in Elwood. To this union one son, Doyle, was born. Harold and Dorothy had been married over 65 years when he passed away in 2003.
Dorothy and Harold farmed in the Elwood/Smithfield area from 1938 until May of 2003. They worked side-by-side running a farm and cattle operation. She especially enjoyed keeping an immaculate yard and garden. Friends and family looked forward to her sweet, dill and beet pickles, as well as her frozen sweet corn and brownies. In May 2003, Dorothy and Harold retired, had a farm sale and moved to Lincoln to be near their son and daughter-in-law and family.
Dorothy is survived by her son: Doyle (Judy) Haney of Lincoln, Nebraska
Grandchildren: Ben (Jen) Haney, Leann (Pat) Frederick, and Angie (Bob) Bredthauer, all of Lincoln, Nebraska
Great-grandchildren: Andrew Haney, Jesse, Laney and Jake Frederick, and Sarah Bredthauer.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and infant son, her parents, and brothers, Charles (Myrtle) Moncrief and Harold (Peggy) Moncrief.
Services will be held Friday, March 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Elwood Methodist Church with Pastor Connie Karr officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, Elwood Methodist Church, or Nebraska Alzheimer’s Association.
Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood, Nebraska.
