Doris J. Parks, 78, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
She was born January 17, 1931, at Oxford, Nebraska, to Leland and Hazel (Strever) McInturf.
Doris graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1948. She went on to further her education at Midwestern School of Evangelism in Ottumwa, Iowa. She returned to Lexington following college and worked at Baumgartner’s 5 & 10.
She was united in marriage to Garner Parks on August 21, 1965, at the Church of Christ in Lexington, Nebraska. Garner was a widowed father of five children and Doris raised these kids as her own.
Doris was an excellent seamstress. She sewed the men’s suits and ladies’ dresses for several of the children’s weddings. She was a wonderful cook and crocheted beautiful afghans for each member of the family.
Doris was a charter member of the Church of Christ. She was always very active in the church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and director of Vacation Bible School.
Survivors include three sons: David & Doris Parks of Owatonna, Minnesota
Ron & Ginn Parks of Lincoln, Nebraska
Dan & Terry Parks of Rockville, Maryland
Two daughters: Lanette & Mark Loseke of Kearney, Nebraska
Cheryl & David Eakins of Kenosha, Wisconsin
Fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Garner on April 28, 2008.
Funeral Services will be Friday, March 6, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Nathan Rhea officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
