Brigid R. Haines, 95, of Nelson, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Nelson.
Brigid Rita Haines was born July 16, 1913, in Lawrence, Nebraska to Margaret Buettner Maloney and John D. Maloney. On April 2, 1933, she married Elmer “Lefty” Haines in St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Lawrence, Nebraska.
Brigid grew up in the Lawrence area where she attended school at St. Stephens Catholic School. She moved to Lexington in 1936, where she worked for many, many years at the Lexington Community Hospital, Tri-County Hospital and Westside Care Home. She was awarded the Caring Kind Award from Tri-County Hospital, voted on by her fellow employees. This was the type of person Brigid was, very kind and caring.
Brigid was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington for years and very involved with ministry to the people at Westside Care Home. When she moved to Nelson, Nebraska, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar society and Quilt club. She made many quilts for her family. Brigid was a Proverbs 31 woman. She will be remembered for her generosity and her Irish wit.
She loved all sports, especially baseball and was an avid Yankee fan. She lived the last four years of her life with her daughter, Charlene. Her love of life, family and her sense of humor will provide her family with sweet memories for the span of their lifetimes.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Brigid was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lefty; six brothers and five sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Paul Colling officiating.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 2, 2009, from 2-4 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home with Wake/Scripture Service being held Monday, March 2, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
Burial will be in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington.
