Cecil W. Wempen, 78, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born May 21, 1930, on the family farm south of Sumner, Nebraska, to Henry William and Martha (Baker) Wempen.
Cecil was united in marriage to Beverly Rutledge on May 22, 1953, at Lexington, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Betty and Eugene.
Cecil was a past member of the Nebraska National Guard. He worked for Darr Hay Mill and on a dairy farm until a stroke forced him to retire in 1994.
He enjoyed going to dances, playing cards with the neighbors, his animals (especially his goats) and being with his family.

One son: Eugene (Diane) Wempen of Overton, Nebraska
One daughter: Betty (Patrick) Arnold of Sumner, Nebraska
Grandchildren: Lori, Katie & Eugene, Jr. Wempen of Overton, Nebraska; Sean (Sara) Arnold of Kearney, Nebraska; Trisha Arnold of Kearney, Nebraska.
Great-grandchildren: Conner & Brendon Arnold of Kearney, Nebraska
One sister: Mary Ann Barth of Sumner, Nebraska
One brother: Earnie (Kathryn) Wempen of Overton, Nebraska
He is survived also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry, Jr.
Funeral Services will be Monday, February 23, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Sumner (East Campus) with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating.
Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery at Miller, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 22, 2009, from 4-6 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
