Mary Owens, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.
Mary was born September 26, 1927, in Winner, South Dakota, to William C. and Ina G. (Mowry) Balfany. She was educated in Winner, SD and Arcadia, NE. Mary was united in marriage to H. Brice Owens on December 28, 1946, in Smith Center, Kansas. The couple moved to Lexington in 1947. Four children were blessed to this marriage; Mary Lou, Patricia, William and Marcia.
Mary was always an active member of the Lexington community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, past Worthy Matron, and the hospital auxiliary.
She loved to play cards, specifically; Bridge and Pinochle; cross-stitch; and spending time with her friends. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed a good joke or story, and never knew a stranger. Mary will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by three children; Mary Lou Howell of Urbandale, Iowa, Patricia J. Wade of Norfolk, Nebraska, and William B. (Jan) Owens of Oswego, Kansas; ten grandchildren; Tiffany (Jeff) Harger, J.B. (Tiffany) Howell, Trevor (Tina) Howell, Shane (Connie) Krohn, Brice (Chelse) Krohn, Brad (Kristi) Krohn, Kelly Krohn, Crista Owens, John Owens, and Zane Owens; eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members and many friends.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; husband; daughter (Marcia), grandson (Chad), and, brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 21, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Reverend Kay Knudson officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Lexington Community Foundation or Donor’s Choice.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska.
