Joan Elizabeth Stuckey

Joan Elizabeth Stuckey, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Lexington Regional Health Center. Joan was born December 25, 1922, to Frank Oakley Price and Dora (Bowersock) Price at York, Nebraska. She lived with her family on a farm near Thayer, Nebraska, where she attended Rosemond District 77 School and later graduated from Thayer High School in 1941. Joan enrolled at Kearney State Teacher’s College and was a member of Sigma Theta Phi Sorority. She began her teaching career in Lexington, Nebraska, where she taught third grade. She met John Charles (Jack) Stuckey when he returned to Lexington upon his discharge from the military after serving in Europe during WWII. They married on August 15, 1946 and had two children, Scott and Mary. Joan temporarily retired from teaching and was a stay-at-home mom. In the early 1960’s she returned to the classroom and became the first Director of Lexington’s Head Start Program. Joan continued teaching for the remainder of her working years, and in addition was involved in PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H Clubs. She served many years as chairman of the Good Fellows Christmas Program. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was an ordained Deacon and Elder at her Lexington church. She also served on the Christian Education Board and the Westminster Woods Board. She was a longtime member of Chapter HV PEO. Surviving Joan are her children, Scott and wife Nancy Stuckey of Lincoln, Nebraska; and daughter Mary Stuckey Lowe of Houlton, Maine; six grandchildren, Emily Stuckey Kluver and husband Richard of Lincoln, Nebraska, Maggie Stuckey of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Ted Stuckey and wife Nicole of Hartford, Connecticut, Brooke Larson and husband John of Palm Bay, Florida, Brandon Lowe and wife Crystal of Yarmouth, Maine, Brittany Scott and husband Ryan of Littleton, Maine; six great-grandchildren, Mariah, Whitney, Braden, Sophie, Elisah and Marlowe. Preceding Joan in death were her parents; husband, Jack; and two brothers, Sheldon and Reginald Price. Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 21, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Chuck Olson officiating. Inurnment will be held prior at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. It was Joan’s wishes her body be cremated. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or Lexington Community Foundation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
