Phyllis Joan Schauer, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
She was born July 8, 1928, in Cambridge, Nebraska, to Floyd Albert and Lena Laverna (Bogle) Kutz. She was a 1946 graduate of Cambridge High School. Following high school, she taught third grade for one year near Cambridge.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Vernon L. Schauer on December 23, 1947, in Cambridge, Nebraska. Four children were blessed to this marriage, Linda, Steve, Donald and Kathy. The couple moved to Lexington in 1950.
Phyllis was fortunate enough to be a stay-at-home mother to her children while they were growing up. She then worked a few part-time jobs until she became the head cook at Pershing Elementary, where she worked until retiring in 1998. She then devoted her life to caring for her husband who was very ill. He passed away May 4, 2006.
She loved to spend time with family and was a wonderful cook. Her specialities were fried chicken, angel food cake, Spanish rice, and a family favorite, cheese noodle soup. She enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, crocheting and making afghans, which are cherished by her family. She also enjoyed gardening and canning her produce. She was known to play a mean game of cards. Phyllis was a wonderfully kind lady who will be very missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children; Linda (Galen) Meyer of Lexington, Nebraska, Steve (Janet) Schauer of Grand Island, Nebraska, Donald (Deb) Schauer of Kearney, Nebraska, and Kathy (Mark) Green of Casper, Wyoming; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Marla) Kutz of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Gary (Barbara) Kutz of Sisters, Oregon; also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by her parents, and sister, Jean Miracle.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at LexChristian Church in Lexington with Pastor Daniel Sauer officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
