David Stuart Rigler, Sr.

David Stuart Rigler, Sr., 71, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born September 12, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dallas M. and June D. (Murdoch) Rigler. David attended school in Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Following school, David was a career Army Veteran. He served his country from June 22, 1964, until September 30, 1986. David served three tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. David fathered three sons: Paul, David Jr., & Dallas. Following his time in the Army, David bought a ranch in Fountain, Colorado, where he raised Quarter horses and was a horse trader. He also dabbled in horse racing. In 1997, David moved to Callaway, Nebraska. He drove a propane truck for All Points Cooperative and also did side work for ranchers in the Callaway area. David was an expert hunter and horseman. He was very involved with the VFW and the Sons Of The American Legion in Callaway. He was always ready to help anyone he could. He also had a love for German Shepherds. To say David was a collector was an understatement. He couldn’t pass a yard sale and his two biggest passions were collecting guns and coins. Most importantly, he loved his family and will be greatly missed. Survivors include his three sons, Paul Rigler of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David Jr., and Debbie Rigler of Waukegan, Illinois & Dallas and wife Amy Rigler of Cheyenne, Wyoming, five brothers, Dallas and wife Janice Rigler of Callaway, Nebraska, Henry and wife Carol Rigler of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kenneth and wife Connie Rigler of Callaway, Nebraska, Larry and wife Betsy Rigler of West Chicago, Illinois & Gary Rigler of West Chicago, Illinois, one sister, Margaret and husband Nick Karales of West Chicago, Illinois, seven grandchildren & two great-grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Callaway United Methodist Church with Mr. Ken Pitkin, officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 9-11 a.m. at Callaway United Methodist Church. Following the Traditional Funeral Service, Cremation will take place and burial of cremains will be on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. with Military Honors at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
