Verlie M. Welliver, 82, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at her home in Lexington.
Verlie was born October 3, 1932, in Wilsonville, Nebraska, to Norman and Pearl (Knutson) Cannon. Her family moved to Lexington from Holdrege when she was 9 years old. She attended high school in Lexington.
Verlie was united in marriage to Paul Welliver on December 27, 1948, in Lexington. The marriage was blessed with seven children; Dennis, Paula, Douglas, Peg, Robin, Rhonda, and Darren. She was involved in many activities throughout her life. When her children were young she was president of the P.T.A., a scout leader, played softball, and enjoyed bowling.
In 1979, Verlie, under the encouragement of her former Principal, John Cox, was presented her GED by him, an accomplishment she was so proud of. Verlie was a passionate and active member of the Evangelical Free Church, where she helped with Awanas and taught many kids the joy of knowing Jesus. She was active in a pro-life group, taught ESL, and the Birthday Club. She was also active in Christian Women’s Club and she taught a Bible Study for many years. Family was the most important part of her life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-children brought such joy to her life. Verlie had a heart of gold, a smile to brighten anyone’s day, and a light that shown all around her. She will be so missed.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Paul Welliver of Lexington, Nebraska, her children, Dennis (Kathleen) Welliver of Rockwall,Texas, Paula (Barry) Pfister of Lexington, Nebraska, Doug (Chris) Welliver of Pleasanton, Nebraska, Peg (Kerry) Walker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Robin (Fred) Heinrich of Slate Hill, New York, Rhonda Wahls of Loomis, Nebraska, and Darren Welliver of Hildreth, Nebraska; fifteen grandchildren; Gary (Marci) Thomalla of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Justin (Chelsea) Thomalla of Omaha, Nebraska, Ryan Thomalla of Denver, Colorado, Ted (Kayla) Pfister of Overton, Nebraska, Lauren (Tanner) Gates of Omaha, Nebraska, Jamie (Jeff) Kezeor of Papillion, Nebraska, Abbie (Zach) Lamphere of Loveland, Colorado, Ashleigh Walker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Morgan, Madison and Max Heinrich of Slate Hill, New York, Levi Titus of Holdrege, Nebraska, and Sam, Ike, and Caitlynn Wahls of Loomis, Nebraska; eleven great-grandchildren, Haley, Thatcher, Claire & Cooper Thomalla, Zoey, Jett & Jovi Thomalla, Ashtyn Pfister, Finley Gates, Grace Lamphere, and Makennah Titus; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Verlie was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, James Cannon and infant, Norman Cannon, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Lexington with Pastor Duane Russell officiating.
Burial will be held prior at 9:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 2, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested, in lieu of flowers please, to the Evangelical Free Church or the Donor’s Choice.
