Mildred Bernice Salisbury Delp, 99, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Cozad, Nebraska. The daughter of Guy William Salisbury and Emma Sophie Dreher was born on July 15, 1916, in Elwood, Nebraska. Emma died in 1921 of appendicitis. Guy then married Edith Merle Wade on August 29, 1923. Fondly known as Mick, she attended rural school in Gosper County, graduating from Elwood High School in 1933. While in high school, Mick worked at the telephone office and continued working there after graduation. She also worked weekends at the Dow Grocery store in Elwood. On September 1, 1936 she married Oden Lois Delp, in Elwood, Nebraska.
Oden worked for Salisbury-Almquist Implement in Elwood while Mick continued with the telephone company. In 1943, Oden was drafted into the U.S. Navy and the couple was stationed in Jacksonville, FL. where Mick worked selling War Bonds. In March 1946, Mick and Oden returned to Lexington Ne.to make their home. They purchased the Ford Dealership from Paul McGuire, later selling it and starting a new dealership known as Delp-Chandler Motors. They were also actively engaged in farming and cattle.
Two children were born to this marriage, Karla Sue, born on September 18, 1949, and Terry Lynn born on December 23, 1951. Mick was an exceptional mother and homemaker who enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and baking. In the last 10 years she enjoyed the friends and support of the Park Avenue Estates community. Mick was an avid bridge player and enjoyed celebrating her 99th birthday on July 15th with a group of bridge players, and was disappointed she didn’t win! Another highlight of Mick’s life included the regular visits from her two grandchildren and five great- grandchildren who live on the East Coast.
Mick was baptized in the Elwood Christian Church and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. She was preceded in death by Oden, her husband of 64 years on August 11, 2000; her mother, Emma, her parents, Guy and Edith Salisbury; brother-in-law, James “Skeet” Remmenga, and niece, Jeanne Remmenga.
Survivors include son, Terry and Beth Delp of Lexington; daughter, Karla and Jeff Milanette of Annapolis, MD; grandchildren, Darcie and Andrew Lubalin of Fanwood, NJ and Terry and Charles Mello of Annapolis, MD; great-grandchildren, Jackson Lubalin, Kelsie Lubalin, Anna Mello, Katherine Mello and Julia Mello; brother, Robert Salisbury of Lexington and sister, Elaine Remmenga of LaJolla, CA; nieces, Brenda Avery and Guylyn Cummins and nephew, Ronn Remmenga all of California.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Steve Deines officiating.
Burial will be held prior at 9:00 a.m. in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Monday, August 3, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
