C. Marie (Nichol) Morgan, 84, of Sumner, Nebraska, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Nebraska.
She was born January 7, 1925, to John Thomas Nichol and Thelma (Finley) Nichol near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She attended grade school in the small village of Welling, and high school at Tahlequah, Oklahoma, graduating in 1941. After high school she went to live with her aunt in Oklahoma City, and worked in a store in the city.
Marie was united in marriage to Ellis N. Morgan on June 18, 1945, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Marie and Ellis met while Ellis was stationed at Will Rogers Field. They were married when he returned from Italy. They lived in San Antonio, Texas until October when he was sent to the Lincoln Air Base in Lincoln, Nebraska, to be discharged.
Ellis went to work at the Navy Ammunition Depot near Hastings, Nebraska, and they lived in Hastings. In the early 1950’s, they bought an acreage near Juniata, Nebraska and lived there until the base at Hastings closed. They were transferred in May of 1966, to a Navy Ammunition Depot near McAlester, Oklahoma. They bought a new brick house and lived there until Ellis retired in 1972. The couple moved back to Nebraska and built a new home near Miller, Nebraska. They then moved to Sumner where they retired.
Marie loved to sew and made all kinds of items. She knitted, crocheted and quilted many things. She also sewed most of her own clothing. She also loved the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and never missed listening or watching a game. Marie enjoyed being with her loving family as well family gatherings. Because of her failing health she moved into Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington in September, 2007.
She was a member of the United Church of Sumner.

Two daughters: Carol (Jim) Whitesel of Miller, Nebraska
Lori Erwin of Sumner, Nebraska
One son: Dale (Jozi) Morgan of Houston, Texas
Two sisters: Cleo (Gordon) Robinson of Stockton, California
Lula Vanderpool of Tahlequah, Oklahoma
One brother: John (Liz) Nichol of Tulsa, Oklahoma
Six grandchildren: Lisa (Alan) Lautenschlager, James (Amanda) Whitesel, Jessica Erwin, Chelsey Erwin, Chase Erwin and Jeremy (Emily) Morgan.
Eight great-grandchildren: Kaci, Kylie & Kortney Jacoby; Jeremy P. & Anthony Morgan; Megan, Faith & Tucker Whitesel.
One great-great-granddaughter: Ashlyn Van Eperen.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ray Nichol of Tulsa, Oklahoma and a sister, Willie Keeler of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Marie’s body was cremated.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Sumner, East Campus with Reverend Ken Hutson officiating.
A Memorial Book Signing and visiting with family will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2009, from 7-8 p.m. at the United Church of Sumner, East Campus.
Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Sumner.
Inurnment of Marie’s ashes will be held at a later date.
