Irvin W. Spangler, 80, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
Irvin was born October 29, 1934, in Callaway, Nebraska, to Wilson and Clara (Miller) Spangler.
Irvin attended school at Callaway where he graduated with the class of 1952. He then went on to further his education at Milford Technical College, where he studied auto body repair. Upon completion at Milford, he returned to Callaway where he farmed on the home place. He was united in marriage to Gladys Lichtenberger on September 8, 1961, in Kearney, Nebraska.
He served his country in the United States Army, and following his honorable discharge, returned to Nebraska to the farm on Redfern Table. The family then moved to rural Lexington where Irvin farmed and then to Cozad where he worked for H&H Implement. In 1965, they returned to Callaway where he opened up Irv’s Body Shop. He retired from Behlen Manufacturing in Columbus. Irvin also drove the school bus for many years.
Irvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Callaway, Elk’s Club, Lion’s Club, and a founding member of 7 Valleys Historical Society in Callaway. He volunteered as a member of the fire department for many years. Irvin enjoyed John Wayne western movies, woodworking, fishing, and playing cribbage.
Survivors include his wife; Gladys of Callaway, Nebraska; children, Wayne (Kathy) Spangler of Manley, Nebraska, Cindy (Richard) Brunken of Gelena, Missouri, Teri (Rick) Buhlmann of Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Candy (Duane) Thomas of Callaway, Nebraska; one brother, Dean (Carol) Spangler of Oconto, Nebraska; one sister, Marilyn (Fred) Morrison of O’Neill, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robyn, brother, Allen, and granddaughter, Stephanie.
It was Irvin’s wishes his body be cremated. The family has honored those wishes.
A Memorial Graveside Service with full Military honors will be held Monday, June 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway with Reverend Chad Boling officiating.
Memorial Book signing will be held prior to the graveside from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
Memorials are suggested to Callaway American Legion or 7 Valleys Historical Society.
