Shirley Jo Walker, 78, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Elwood Care Center at Elwood, Nebraska. She was born March 12, 1937, in Gothenburg, Nebraska, to George and Shirley (Andrews) Blazer. Shirley grew up in Gothenburg where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Stanley Walker on October 1, 1958, in Gothenburg, Nebraska, at the First Baptist Church. Three children were blessed to this marriage; Kathy, Susan and Dale. The couple made their home in Algona, Iowa for 13 years, Gothenburg for 3 to 4 years, and eventually settled in Lexington in 1976. During Shirley’s working years she worked weekends at a local motel, worked at a café, but her favorite was working and volunteering at the Dawson County Historical Society. Shirley was a Crisis Line volunteer and helped with the Parent/Child Center. She was instrumental in helping bring the last Chautuaqua to Lexington. Shirley also had a great love for animals, especially her cats. Family held a special place in her heart and she will be very missed by all who knew and loved her. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Gothenburg and a friend of the Berean Bible Church in Lexington. Shirley is survived by her children; Kathy (Marion) Jackson of Omaha, Nebraska, Susan Smith of Buckner, Missouri, and Dale (Vicky) Walker of Lexington, Nebraska, two grandchildren, Sally (Julia) Jackson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ruby Jackson of Omaha, Nebraska, two half-sisters, Barbara Miller of Big Springs, Texas, and Bette Dixon of San Angelo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; granddaughter, Heather Smith; uncle, Robert Andrews and cousin, Ardis Foster. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Matt Doubet officiating. Burial will be in the Peckham Cemetery south of Gothenburg, Nebraska. Visitation will be held Monday, April 6, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or S.P.C.A. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
