Frieda R. Rowan, 91, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
She was born November 11, 1923, in Clayton, Michigan, to Charles and Lizzie (Spicer) Shanholtz. She moved as a young girl to South Dakota, then to Arkansas and settled in Cozad in 1933. She attended high school in Cozad.
Frieda was united in marriage to Karl Keesecker on March 3, 1944, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Four children were born to this marriage; Karla, Toni, Margo and Tim. She was then married to Tom Rowan on December 26, 1971, in Lexington, Nebraska. She welcomed Tom’s four daughters to the marriage; Diane, Kathy, Carolynn and Lois.
During Frieda’s working years she worked in several local nursing homes, and cleaned houses. Frieda enjoyed putting puzzles together and was known throughout the family for her baking, especially cookies and banana bread. You never left a visit without a loaf or a bag of cookies. She loved collecting beautiful porcelain dolls and Campbell soup memorabilia.
Frieda will be so very missed by her large family and friends.
Survivors include her husband; Tom Rowan of Lexington, Nebraska; one son, Tim (Terri) Keesecker of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven daughters, Karla (Larry) Egan of Gering, Nebraska, Toni McGrath of Gering, Nebraska, Margo McCance of Lexington, Nebraska, Diane (Gordon) Quitmeyer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kathy (Keith) Schmeeckle of Eustis, Nebraska, Carolynn (John) Wells of Cozad, Nebraska, and Lois (Dave) Peters of Omaha, Nebraska; twenty-seven grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, three grandchildren, Timothy McGrath, Crystal Crowe, and Michael Quitmeyer, three sisters, Mary Matz, Blanche Stutzman, and Grace German, and six brothers, Luther, Charles, Teddy, Harry, Elvin and Orville; also, two sons-in-law, Dean McCance and Verne McGrath.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Rex Adams officiating.
Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation.
