LeRoy Allen Woodside, 78, of Kearney, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at St. John’s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney. He was born July 2, 1936, to Axel Harold and Rosa Karolina Josephine (Schwarz) Woodside. He grew up in Lexington where he attended school and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1955. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Flint in 1955. Three children were born to this marriage; Laura, Kelly and Mark. LeRoy later married Myrna Sater on September 13, 1964, in Grand Island, Nebraska. He welcomed Myrna’s daughters, Kim and Billie into the family. The couple later was blessed with two children, Joannie and DelRay. LeRoy loved children. He and Myrna were foster parents to Marty, James and Jason Branstitter and Hannah (Hochstetler) Metzger. During LeRoy’s working years, he spent most of his childhood working at the bowling alley in Lexington and then Cornland Dressed Beef. In 1970, the family moved to Gibbon. They bought and operated the bowling alley in Shelton, Nebraska until 1977. In 1977, they returned to Lexington where LeRoy worked at Sperry New Holland in Quality Control. In 1983, they moved to Merna, Nebraska where he was the custodian at the school and was a masseuse. In 1993, they moved to Mississippi where he was a security guard at Casino Magic. They then returned to Nebraska and moved to Minden. While in Minden Myrna passed away and LeRoy was manager of a trailer park. He later moved to Kearney when he retired. LeRoy had been confirmed and was a member as a young man of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lexington Muzzleloader’s Club. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, deer hunting, fishing, camping, playing guitar and being with family. Survivors include his children; daughter Kelly Bliven and Terry Blum of Bertrand, Nebraska, son, Mark Woodside of Kearney, Nebraska, stepdaughters, Kim (Kirk) Carlson of Ralston, Nebraska and Billie (Lonnie) Root of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; three brothers, Bernard (Judy) Woodside of Holdrege, Nebraska, Wayne (Patricia) Woodside of Odessa, Nebraska and, Mick (Rita) Woodside of Kearney, Nebraska; one sister, Viola Woodside of Lexington, Nebraska; eighteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; as well nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, two daughters, one son, one grandson, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be Friday, February 20, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery northwest of Lexington. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
