Clarence Donald Davenport

Clarence D. Davenport, 94, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow, Nebraska. He was born August 19, 1920, near Callaway, Nebraska, to Harvey and Lena A. (Beechler) Davenport. Clarence was the youngest of five children. He was baptized as a baby in to the catholic faith and confirmed at the age of 12. He was a devoted and faithful catholic all of his 94 plus years. Clarence enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on September 30, 1942, and became a very capable pilot and navigator, reaching the rank of Sgt. He was honorably discharged on April 14, 1945. Following the service he returned to the family farm northwest of Callaway. Clarence’s family and friends were known to describe him as a quiet gentle man, who was also kind, intelligent and dedicated, and possessing extraordinary wit. Clarence was blessed to have a dear faithful friend and caretaker, Edwin Johnson, who was associated in the agriculture business for 41 years. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mary Davenport of Loveland, Colorado; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Bernard, Orville, Valena and Irene. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway, Nebraska with Reverends Thomas Gudipalli, Jim Hunt, and James Novakowski concelebrating. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway. Visitation will be held one hour prior to rosary at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Memorials are suggested to St. Boniface Catholic Church.
