Kenneth William Holen

Kenneth William Holen, 92, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. He was born December 10, 1915, at Bertrand, Nebraska, to William and Opal (Karr) Holen. He was baptized and confirmed at Westmark Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska. After graduating from Bertrand High School in 1934, he farmed in the Bertrand area and owned and operated Holen Floral and Nursery in Lexington. He was united in marriage to Lucille Miller on May 7, 1939, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. Kenneth served as President of the Nebraska Florists Society and was on the Board of Directors for several years. He served as FTD (Florist Telegraph Delivery) District Representative and was a member of SAF (Society of American Florists). Kenneth was always active in the community. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the Council and Board. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also in the Chamber of Commerce, Lexington Diplomats, where he received the first LeRoy Jordening Trophy for outstanding Diplomat, he sang in the Lexington Barbershoppers and served as a 4-H leader for several years. Kenneth and Lucille traveled extensively; including, trips to Sweden to visit relatives which he so enjoyed. Kenneth especially enjoyed the outdoors and took pleasure in his floral and nursery business. Survivors include one son: William (Nance) Holen of Johnson Lake, Nebraska Three daughters: Susan Bryan of Lexington, Nebraska Sandra (Tim) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska Patricia Holen of Kansas City Grandchildren: Shawn (Marla) Holen of Cozad, Nebraska; Michael Holen of Lexington, Nebraska; Matthew Feldman of Kansas City; Diane (Alan) Saunders of Lexington, Nebraska; Cheryl Gehle of Lexington, Nebraska; Shelby Forrester of Oconto, Nebraska; Stacey (John) Wells of Omaha, Nebraska and Courtney (Ryan) Osterholm of Knoxville, Tennessee. Stepgrandchildren: Cheri (Dan) Trumble, Chris (Barbara) Bryan and Carolyn (Terry) Cunningham, all of Lincoln, Nebraska Seven great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons, three step-great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law: Marjorie Miller and Eileen Schrock of Holdrege, Nebraska Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Miller) Holen; parents; son-in-law, Jerry Bryan; grandson, David Bryan, step-grandson, Craig Bryan; three brothers and their wives, Bernard (Winifred) Holen and Neil (Betty) Holen, LaVern (Eleanor) Holen. Services will be Monday, November 17, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Robb Cemetery south of Lexington, Nebraska Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2008, from 2-5 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or the Lexington Fire Department. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
