Richard B. “Dick” Fischer, 93, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska.
Richard was born April 17, 1921, in Cedar County, Nebraska, to John and Anna (Baumann) Fischer. He attended school at District #82, Cedar County, Nebraska. He was proud of his service to his country during WWII, in the United States Army.
He was united in marriage to Velma Peterson on August 9, 1944, at the Catholic Church in Hartington, Nebraska. Velma preceded him in death on May 23, 1989.
Richard lived in several places throughout his life; including, Gothenburg, Kearney, Schuyler, Wood River, and Lexington. He had lived at Golden Living Center in Cozad for the past 14 years.
Throughout his life he worked for Capital Bridge Company, and Roberts Construction Company, prior to working for the Street Department for the City of Lexington. He retired in 1986.
He enjoyed woodworking and built all of his kitchen cabinets, watching westerns, and WWE wrestling. His greatest joy came from being with family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons; Daniel (Barb) Fischer of Cozad, Nebraska, Donald (Debbie) Fischer of Beatrice, Nebraska; one daughter, Diane Zulkoski of Cozad, Nebraska; nineteen grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He considered the residents and staff at Golden Living Center his family also.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Doris Neis; two brothers, Emery and Edgar; and, one sister, Irene.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Caroline Vickery officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
