Harold Henry Heins

Harold H. Heins, 94, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014, at his home in Lexington. He was born April 9, 1920, at home near Buffalo, Nebraska, to Fred and Sophie (Abele) Heins. Harold attended elementary school at Buffalo District #44 and then Buffalo Lutheran Parochial school. Harold served his country in the United States Army during WWII, serving from October 17, 1941, until his honorable discharge on November 14, 1945, with the rank of Corporal. The time he spent serving his country was one he was very proud of. He enjoyed the Army reunions with his Army buddies and was proud of the fact he was able to be a part of one of the Hero Flights. Harold wrote and a book and had it published about his experience in the War, “From Zero to Betelnut”. This was one of his greatest accomplishments. He was united in marriage to Wilma (Jorgensen) Kjar on March 23, 1948, in Kearney, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with three children; Joanne, Rob and Jane. He lived on the farm until moving to town in 1991. He loved farming and working with his neighbors. Wilma passed away in 1995. Harold kept active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Golden Rod Car Club, playing cards at the Grand Generation Center and having coffee with his friends. He was a 4-H leader for many years and rarely missed exercising at the Fitness Center. Harold was a proud, kind man with a wonderful sense of humor. His family meant the world to him. He will be so very missed. Survivors include his children; son, Rob (Brenda) Heins of Cozad, Nebraska; daughters, Joanne (Glen) Stevens of Cozad, Nebraska; and, Jane (Kevin) Dosch of Aurora, Colorado; brother, Art (Ramona) Heins of Kearney, Nebraska; two sisters, Helen Vickers of Alliance, Nebraska; and, Esther Gibbs of Kearney, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Lola Heins of Gothenburg, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren, Jodi (Devin) Dudley of Peculiar, Missouri, C.J. (Lupe) Stevens of Kearney, Nebraska, Cindy (Bob) Vela of Alliance, Nebraska, Micki (Tom) Lauby of Lexington, Nebraska, Tanner (Larisa) Ong of Lexington, Nebraska, Cali (Bill) Jacobson of Cozad, Nebraska, Travis Dosch and Haley Dosch both of Aurora, Colorado; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; two brothers, Paul and Martin; one sister-in-law, Helen Heins and one brother-in-law, Dale Vickers. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 2, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner and Pastor William Ohlmann officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Dawson County Relay for Life, Central Plains Home Health & Hospice or the Lutheran Hour. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
