EmmaJean Ruth Hahn

EmmaJean R. Hahn, 85, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born July 21, 1929, in Burwell, Nebraska, to Edward and Sarah (Gray) Steele. She attended school and graduated from Kearney public schools. She was united in marriage to Wendell “Corky” Witmer and four children were blessed to this marriage; Carol, Marilyn, Connie and Randy. The marriage later ended in divorce and she married Louis Hahn. EmmaJean continued her education at Kearney State College after her children were grown and attained her Teaching degree. She taught school for 29 years in the Overton school system, all of them the third grade. EmmaJean retired from teaching in 1991, but continued to substitute teach for a time in Overton. She loved camping, fishing, traveling and was an avid rock painter. She enjoyed crafts, but most especially, being with her family. EmmaJean enjoyed spending the winters in Quartsite, Arizona for the past 20 years. She was so fortunate to find love again with David Wareham, a wonderful companion whom she enjoyed spending time with. EmmaJean was a lovely lady who had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her children; Carol West of Overton, Nebraska, Marilyn (Dennis) Keim of Elm Creek, Nebraska, Connie McCarter of Overton, Nebraska and Randy Witmer of Overton, Nebraska; her soulmate, David Wareham of Overton, Nebraska; one brother, Bobby Steele of Many, Louisiana; and, one sister, Rosie Molzahn of Imperial, Nebraska; fifteen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and many friends. EmmaJean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis Hahn; grandson, Brian Witmer; two brothers, Clyde and Virgil; three sisters, Edna, Alice and Bonnie and two sons-in-law, Elwood West and Glenn McCarter, Jr. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the Overton Methodist Church with Reverend Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery at Miller, Nebraska. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
