Dale Fredrick Mooberry, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at Lexington Regional Health Center.
Dale was born June 20, 1927, in Hebron, Nebraska, to Carl and Lucille (Daringer) Mooberry. He attended high school in Hebron. He was united in marriage to Elaine Bartling on September 12, 1950, in Hebron, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with five children; Judith, Thomas, Myrna, Charles and Donald.
He was a member of the Merchant Marines during WWII from January 6, 1945 until December 3, 1946. He was then inducted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict serving from October 27, 1950 until his honorable discharge on July 26, 1952. Dale achieved the rank of Sargent FC and honored with three Bronze Service Stars.
In 1963, the family moved to Lexington. The couple owned and operated the Den Restaurant/Bar in Lexington for many years. He ran a thriving business alongside Elaine, and was a well-respected businessman, as well as a true gentleman. Upon their retirement they enjoyed camping, taking winter trips all over the United States and Mexico. Dale loved being at the lake where family brought so much enjoyment.
Dale loved to hunt, fish, and golf. He was computer savvy way beyond his years and loved passing time by being on his computer; doing his banking, emailing, and corresponding. Dale was a life-long learner. He studied the Spanish language as more Spanish speaking folks moved to Lexington. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the VFW, and Eagles Club.
He absolutely loved playing cards with his buddies. Dale had been through a lot this past year. Elaine passed away in February of 2014 and son, Chuck in October of 2014. He will be very missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dale is survived by four children; Judith (husband Grant) Wood of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tom (wife Trish Brownell) Mooberry of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, Myrna (husband Lou) Stanard of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Don Mooberry of Lexington, Nebraska, daughter-in-law, Evelyn Lijoodi Mooberry of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta (husband Darold) Hiatt of Superior, Nebraska; also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Dale was preceded in death in addition to his wife and son, by his parents; and sister Margaret.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Neal Nollette officiating.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. with Wake Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington.
Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the St. Ann’s Cemetery at Lexington.
