James N. “Jim” Screws, Sr., 67 of Lexington passed away Friday, November 14, 2014, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Jim was born March 12, 1947, in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Robert C. and Josephine I. Screws.
Jim grew up in Holly Bluff, Mississippi where he attended grade school until the age of 9. The family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Jim graduated from Palmer High School with the class of 1965. Jim attended college at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. He worked construction as a Dry Waller until becoming disabled in 1975. In 1991, the family moved to Lexington. Jim attended college classes at UNK in Kearney.
He was united in marriage to Alice Snyder on February 22, 1969, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this marriage; James, Daniel and Julie.
Jim loved being involved with the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was a past Master of Thistle Lodge #61. He was in the Scottish Rite and York Rite. The DeMolay, Job’s Daughters, Rainbow Girls, and Eastern Star all held a special place in his heart. Jim was presented the honorary Legion of Honor in the DeMolay and the Grand Cross of Color by the Rainbow Girls.
Always a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, Jim enjoyed singing in the choir. He loved people, researching genealogy, playing Nintendo, and performing with the Plum Creek Players. He had a heart of gold and was there to help whenever called upon. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife; Alice Screws of Lexington, Nebraska; sons, James (Robin) Screws, Jr.
of Eustis, Nebraska and Daniel Screws of Lexington, Nebraska; one daughter, Julie Screws of Lexington, Nebraska; four brothers, Eldon (Bobbie) Screws of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Ray (Reiko) Screws of San Jose, California; Bo (Joyce) Screws of Holcomb, Mississippi, and Jerry (Sheila) Screws of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren, Kasie Moore, Amy Moore and Tony (VonDa) Grueschow; three great-grandchildren; Tay-Ven Moore, Rhome Moore and Myia Moore; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dolly Screws.
The Family has honored Jim’s wishes for cremation. There will be no visitation.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Thursday, November 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery officiating.
Masonic Rites will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington prior to the Memorial Service.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or to the family for later designation.
