John I. Gregory, 84, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
He was born July 18, 1930, in Blairstown, Missouri, to Ora Ivan and Mary Frances (Miller) Gregory.
John attended school in Missouri. He worked his entire life as a Logger and Lumberjack in Montana and Washington. Prior to retirement he worked at the Hay Mill in Overton.
John served his Country during the Korean Conflict from April 2, 1953, until being honorably discharged on April 5, 1955. He was united in marriage to Katherine Norden. Four children were born to this marriage; Dale, Debi, Tim and Larry.
He was quite the teaser! He enjoyed the nursing staff at Plum Creek and considered them like family. He spent many hours fishing and taught his grandchildren to love the sport. He enjoyed spending time with the family, especially his great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his children; three sons, Dale (Sherry) Gregory of Oregon; Tim Gregory of Idaho, and Larry (Angie) Gregory of Oregon; one daughter, Debi (Lonnie) Hawthorne of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; stepdaughter, Renee’ Gregory of Kearney, Nebraska; four brothers; Charles (Lois) Gregory of Texas; Ed (Evelyn) Gregory of Overton, Nebraska; Robert Gregory of Winsor, Missouri; Ora Lee Gregory of Winsor, Missouri; and, Donald Gregory of Overton, Nebraska; two sisters; Ethel (Dean) Commins of Wausau, Missouri and Mary Ann (Denny) Dempsey of Calhoun, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, November 17, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Military Honors by the North Platte Color Guard and the Nebraska National Guard. Pastor Rex Adams will be officiating at graveside.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
