Burton Dale Porter, 62, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Sunday, October 19, 2008, at Cozad Community Hospital in Cozad, Nebraska.
He was born October 29, 1945, at Alliance, Nebraska and adopted as an infant by Clarence and Blanche Porter. Burt was raised on a farm near Chappell, Nebraska. He moved to Lexington in the late 1970’s. He was united in marriage to Maretta (Mert) Swinney on December 9, 1978, at the Rose United Methodist Church at Rose, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this union; Carrie and Curtis.
Burton started working for the Nebraska Department of Roads, Deuel County Department of Roads and starting driving truck for Sample Trucking, Gattey Trucking and Treman’s Trucking. He went to work for Sperry New Holland and drove truck for Knapple, Small and Fellers Trucking. He then went to work for Lexington COOP, Horizon Feed and All Points Cooperative, where he worked for the past 29 years. He also cut silage for Hillside Farms for a time.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He was raised in the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed Nascar racing and antique tractors.
Burton was a very kind person, he had a “heart of gold” and loved his family very much. He was quite the “teaser” and took care of everyone else before himself. His pride and joy were his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years: Maretta “Mert” Porter of Lexington, Nebraska
One son: Curtis and Keela Porter of Cozad, Nebraska
One daughter: Carrie and Scott Rasmussen of Chappell, Nebraska
Four granddaughters: KayLee and Shealynn Rasmussen and Kiley and Savanna Porter.
Mother-in-law: Leona Swinney of Bassett, Nebraska
Sister-in-law: Gretchen Swinney of Bassett, Nebraska
Sister: Connie and Jim Gunther of Mesquite, Nevada
Brother: Leland Porter of Chappell, Nebraska
Three adopted daughters: Myra, Sharron and KaLee and their families.
Four nieces, two nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Blair; father-in-law; Howard Swinney; two brothers-in-law, Harold and Ward Swinney, aunts, uncles and grandparents.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Todd Karges officiating.
Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at afternoon at Rose Hill Cemetery near Bassett, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to the Porter Family for later designation.
