Norma June Young

June 26, 1939 — November 8, 2014

Norma June Young, 75, of Lincoln, Nebraska, former rural Overton resident, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Monarch Hospice Care in Lincoln, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born June 26, 1939, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Jesse and Agnes “Leora” (Fowler) Rice. Norma moved with her family as a young girl of 4 to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. This is where she graduated high school with the class of 1957. She then went onto further her education at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln. Norma was united in marriage to Kenneth Maynard Young on April 3, 1960, in Lexington. Four girls were born to this marriage; Linda, Kendra, Kimberly, and Lisa. The couple farmed in rural Dawson County near Overton. In November of 2011, Norma moved to Legacy Estates in Lincoln to be near her daughters. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, where she was active in L.W.M.L., Ladies Guild, and Bible Study. She also helped with Sewing for Babies with a group of ladies from Overton as well as being a member of UCIC Extension Club. Norma was a beautiful person inside and out, always helpful, and always cheerful. Her family was her life. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and became quite the “Techy” on her IPad with emailing and doing crossword puzzles. Norma is survived by three daughters; Linda (Tom) Nicholson of Lincoln, Nebraska; Kimberly (Randall) Franzen of Omaha, Nebraska; and, Lisa (Marty) Norton of Lincoln, Nebraska; son-in-law; Brad (Rhonda) Lahm of Eagle, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; Andrea (Kyle) Albrecht of Austin, Texas, Kenneth Lahm of Kansas City, Missouri, Cory Coffman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Torrie Franzen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Elizabeth Norton of Wayne, Nebraska; and twins, Rachel and Rebecca Norton both of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-granddaughter, Molly Ann Albrecht of Austin, Texas; as well as extended family and many friends. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard; and, daughter Kendra Lahm. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastors Rob Kuefner and William Ohlmann officiating. The Casket will be closed. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Register Book signing and visiting with family will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014, from 4-6 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Dawson County Historical Society. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
