Dean E. Headley, 89, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Friday, September 26, 2014, at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born May 5, 1925, in Oconto, Nebraska, to James Weaver and Nellie Frances (Emfield) Headley. Dean was a 1943 graduate of Callaway High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was united in marriage to Margie Pitkin on July 27, 1947, at Callaway. He farmed, was the owner/operator of Dean’s Market from 1963 to 1971, in Callaway. He then was a Federal Meat Inspector in many Nebraska packing plants, until 1990, when he retired. Dean was a member of Callaway United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Lion’s Club. Dean and Margie loved to travel and he loved music, playing his guitar for church and the folks at the care home. He was very proud of his vegetable garden and, above all, doing woodworking and refinishing antique furniture and many people in Callaway have items that Dean either made or refinished for them. He moved to Kearney in April of 2014. Survivors include three sons; Roger (Jaclynn) Headley of Gothenburg, Nebraska; David (Terri) Headley of Wayne, Nebraska; and, Jeffery Headley of Kearney, Nebraska; two daughters, Becky (Tim) Nickel of Waverly, Nebraska; and, Carol (Ron) Koch of Minden, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie in 2012; five brothers; and, six sisters. Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Chad Boling and Pastor Dean Haidle officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Memorials are suggested to Callaway District Hospital or the Callaway Good Life Center. Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
