Andrea B. Gonzalez

February 4, 1930 — September 8, 2014

Andrea B. Gonzalez, 84, of Bertrand, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Bertrand. Andrea was born February 4, 1930, in Horton, Kansas to Braulio and Mary (Picon’) Barron. She moved to Lexington in 1940, when she was 10 years old. She worked in the beet and corn fields, and picked potatoes. When she was 12 years old she drove her first tractor. In 1942, she met the love of her life, Leonardo Gonzalez. Leo served his country during WWII and upon his return the couple married September 22, 1947, in Lexington. The couple was blessed with 15 children; Porfilio, Bob, Mary Jane, Eleanor (Elly), Ramona, Frances, Terry Jo, Leo, Jr., Annette, Angela, Genevieve (Jane), Ray, Monica, Bernadette, and Dawn. Andrea was a stay-at-home mom until Dawn went to school and then she worked at BD in Holdrege, babysat grandkids, worked at the hay mill for 10 years and then the Blue Lounge, where she made her fabulous Enchiladas. She then retired to take care of Leo until he passed away. Andrea moved to Omaha with her daughter, Elly and lived there for 10 years. During this time she did a lot of traveling, a time she really enjoyed. She then moved to Bertrand to be closer to family in 2009. She moved to an apartment for 4 years and in March of 2014, lived with Berni & Dan until her death. Andrea’s favorite things in her life always involved family. She loved making dishtowels, scrapbooks, and bowling. She was voted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994. She also enjoyed making wreaths for the family graves at the cemetery, cooking, gambling and pinatas. There was only one Andrea in this world, and each night as we look up at the stars, hers will be the brightest and we’ll all know it’s that twinkle in her eye looking down at us.
