Mark L. Dolan

Mark Dolan, 45, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, in Lexington with his loving wife by his side. Mark was born April 12, 1969, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Bob and Colleen (Denson) Dolan. When Mark was a young boy the family moved to Overton where he grew up and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1987. On March 28, 1992, Mark married his high school sweetheart, Amy Streit, in Elm Creek, Nebraska. To this union two boys, Matthew and Mitchell, were born. Mark was employed at Overton Sand and Gravel in Overton for 25 years. In 1988, Mark bought his first racecar, #87, from Jim Manfull of Gibbon. For 25 years Mark has either driven or been Crew Chief for his brother, Chad and the #87. Mark and Chad traveled all over Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, and raced at Las Vegas three times. Mark was a member of the IMCA (International Motor Contest Association) and captured 8 IMCA Track Championships as Crew Chief. Mark was very dedicated and devoted to his family and community. He was a member of the Overton Village Board and past chairman of the board. He currently was a member of the Overton Board of Education. Mark was most proud of his boys and their school activities. During the 2014 season, Mark was able to watch Matt play in the Nebraska State Basketball Championship game and place runner-up in the State Golf Tournament. He was President of the Overton Athletic Booster Club and he and Amy were awarded “Boosters of the Year” this past year. After the end of the school year last year, Mitch was Mark’s right-hand-man. Whatever Mark needed Mitch was there. Mark, you have finished the race, you have captured the checkered flag. You will forever be in our hearts and whenever we watch a race, read about them in the paper, or just hear the roar of an engine, we will think of you our dear friend. Mark is survived by his wife; Amy Dolan of Overton, Nebraska; two sons, Matthew and Mitchell Dolan of Overton, Nebraska; parents; Bob and Colleen Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska; brother, Chad and wife Jamie Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska; sister, Christi Snider of Elm Creek, Nebraska; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Jan Streit of Overton, Nebraska; brothers-in-law; Mark Streit of Overton, Nebraska; and, Joe and wife Patti Streit of Kearney, Nebraska; sisters-in-law; Lori and husband Jeff Davis of Lexington, Nebraska; Lisa and husband Dean Hawkinson of Falcon, Colorado; Linda and husband Pat Patsios of Kearney, Nebraska; Melanie and husband Troy Feikert of Kearney, Nebraska; along with 14 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother-in-law, Mike Streit. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Monday, September 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at LexChristian Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery officiating. Mark’s family has honored his wishes for cremation. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Overton Cemetery.
