Doris Elaine Whitney, 84, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.
She was born September 30, 1923, at Elm Creek, Nebraska, to George and Vera (Snowden) Stryker. Doris moved to Lexington when she was 9 years old and attended Lexington public schools. She lived in Lexington most of her life. Doris worked for Reach Electronics for 22 years.
Doris was united in marriage to Ray Whitney on October 14, 1953, at Alliance, Nebraska. Ray preceded her in death on July 19, 1985.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Doris enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo, playing marbles, crocheting, knitting, walking, hunting and fishing. She was a “spit-fire” who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves a wonderful legacy behind as well as many happy memories shared by her loving family.
Survivors include one daughter: Darlene (Lee) Misterek of Elwood, Nebraska
Four grandchildren: Deb White & Joe Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska
Kris (Scott) Hueftle of Holdrege, Nebraska
Shane Schwarz of Overton, Nebraska
Mindi (Shawn) Area of Overton, Nebraska
Eight great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
One brother-in-law: Ron Bice of Gothenburg, Nebraska
Doris was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by two grandchildren, four sisters, one brother and three brothers-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska with Pastor Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Elwood Care Center Beauty Salon or the American Cancer Society.
