Alice A. Leigh, 93, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Callaway Good Life Center.
Alice was born October 19, 1920, near Callaway, Nebraska , to John and Ella (Dickman) Leigh.
She grew up in Callaway where she graduated from Callaway High School with the class of 1938. Alice then moved to Wichita, Kansas during WWII, where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Boeing Bomber Plant from 1943 to 1945. She then returned to Callaway where she assisted with the farming/ranching operation with her parents until retiring in 1991.
Alice was always active in the United Methodist Church and Rural Neighbors Club. She loved crocheting and knitting, playing Bingo, cards with the family and her flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan. Although she had no children of her own, her nieces and nephews meant the world to her. Alice was a special, kind lady who always had a kind word and warm smile for all she knew and loved.
She is survived by two brothers; Johnnie Leigh of Callaway, Nebraska; and, Delbert and wife Alma Leigh of Broken Bow, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Marjorie Leigh Frederick of Callaway; as well as several nieces and nephews and their families.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; Marvin, Francis, Donald and Calvin Leigh; sister, Mildred Erickson; sisters-in-law, Dolores Leigh and Shirley Leigh and one brother-in-law, Vern Erickson.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with Reverend Chad Boling officiating.
Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 8, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway.
