Ronald M. Johnson, 72, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
He was born July 3, 1936, at Wood River, Nebraska, to Melvin and Etta (Seery) Johnson.
Ron grew up around the Holdrege and Kearney area and stayed close to home until entering the United States Army. He was honorably discharged and upon his discharge was united in marriage to Maxcean Nehls on July 24, 1960, at Kearney, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this union; Melvin, Myron, Wanda, Lloyd and Laurie.
The couple made their home at Fremont, Plymouth, and Kearney. They moved to Lexington in 1965, where they have lived ever since.
The family attended the Baptist church where he received Jesus Christ as his savior. The family was baptized at the river. They then joined the Berean Church where Ron helped with the Awana youth group.
Near and dear to Ron’s heart though were the Boy Scouts. He spent many years volunteering his time as leader and mentor for many boys in the Lexington area. He received the Order of the Arrow and would spend his vacation time each year taking the scouts on their annual camping trips.
Ron worked for Sperry New Holland, Lexington Mill & Elevator and the last 20 years with Nebraska By-Products.

Two daughters: Wanda Ewoldt of Cozad, Nebraska
Laurie Johnson of Lexington, Nebraska
One brother: Jerry Johnson of Holdrege, Nebraska
Two sisters: Winona Barker of Cambridge, Nebraska
Shiela (Fred) Burkey of Sterling, Colorado
Four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Art Peters of Cozad, Nebraska.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Melvin.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2008, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
