Neala O. Lubberstedt, 82, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Park Avenue Estates in Lexington.
She was born February 13, 1932, in Homer, Nebraska, to Judd M. and Lucille (Coats) O’Dell. Neala was a 1950 graduate of South Sioux City High School. She then went on to further her education at the University of Nebraska where she graduated in 1954, with a BA in Education.
Neala was united in marriage to W. Wesley Lubberstedt on June 12, 1955, in Wayne, Nebraska. The marriage was blessed with two daughters, Ann & Amy.
Neala taught school in Wayne, Nebraska, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Grand Island, Nebraska. The family moved to Lexington in 1971, where Neala did substitute teaching for a time. In 1985, Neala and Kathy Neil opened Main Street Interiors. Eventually, Neala became sole owner/operator until retiring and closing the store in 2003. She often helped Wes at his law office when needed. She and Wes were the best of friends, working together side-by-side on many community projects.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church as well as the Altar Guild. She was active in Chapter GR P.E.O., Friends of the Library and a volunteer wherever needed.
Neala loved growing roses and tending to her flowers, was a veracious reader and enjoyed hosting and attending events with friends and family. Her family meant the world to her and she was so proud of the grandchildren. Neala was a dear, dear lady who will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Wes of Lexington; two daughters; Ann (Matt) Dannehl of Omaha, Nebraska; Amy (Jerry) Hobelman of Lexington, Nebraska; four grandchildren; Claire, Ben, John and Ellie; one great-grandson, Landon; one sister, Mary (Robert) Swett of Kansas City, Missouri; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Neala was preceded in death by her parents; as well as two sisters, Bonnie Lott and Virginia Lynberg.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with Vicar Josh Stibb officiating. PEO Memorial Service conducted by Chapter GR, Lexington. The casket will be closed.
Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Memorial Book Signing and remembrance time with the family will be Monday, July 28, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
