Audra Jean Sands, 89, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington.
She was born June 25, 1925, in Wheatland, Wyoming, to Dwight and Hildred (Goodwin) Elliott.
Jean grew up in the Scottsbluff, Nebraska area where she graduated from Scottsbluff High School with the class of 1943. She then attended Scottsbluff Junior College and Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.
She was united in marriage to Franklin P. Sands on January 18, 1948, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Six children were blessed to this marriage; James, Jeffrey, Peter, Andrew, Scott and Sue. The family moved to Lexington in 1968.
Jean served as the city librarian for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s in the Valley Episcopal Church where she served on the Bishop’s Committee, Episcopal Church Women, St. Peter’s Vestry as well as the Altar Society. She was also a member of D.A.R., past president of the Nebraska Library Association and the VFW Auxiliary.
Jean loved to read, attend Bible Study at her church and be surrounded by her loving family. She will be so dearly missed.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter; Jeff and wife Pam Sands of Golden, Colorado; Andrew and wife Donna Sands of Greeley, Colorado; and, Scott Sands of Houston, Texas; daughter, Sue and husband Randy Buss of Kearney, Nebraska; brother, Dwight and wife Nita Elliott of Ojai, California; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren as well as extended family members and many friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sons, James Randolph and Peter.
Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s in the Valley Episcopal Church in Lexington with Reverend Kay Knudson officiating.
Interment will be held prior at 9:30 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Ceremony conducted during visitation by Bonneville Chapter NSDAR.
