Dorothy Burns, 98, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, formerly of Lexington, passed away August 28, 2008, at Heritage Hall in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
She was born at Arcadia, Nebraska, July 2, 1910, to Jerome Woody and Ella May Fradenburg Woody. Dorothy went to Arcadia schools and graduated in 1928. After graduation she worked at a variety store then became and telephone operator at Arcadia.
On December 12, 1931, she married her high school sweetheart, Marion D. Burns. To this union three children were born; Terri, Joellen, and Jerry.
Dorothy and Marion farmed until retirement when they moved to Loup City, Nebraska. They enjoyed farming, gardening and fishing. Dorothy also enjoyed quilting, hand sewing, knitting and water and oil painting. She will be missed by all.
Left to mourn her passing are her three children:
Terri (Ralph) Winter Ferguson of Miller, Nebraska
Joellen (Marvin) Hunt of Lexington, Nebraska
Jerry J. (Joyce) Burns of Anacordis, Washington
Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, an infant sister and three grandchildren.
At Dorothy’s request she wished her body to be cremated with no memorial service.
A private inurnment will be held with immediate family members at a later date at Arcadia, Nebraska.
